About Our Area (with Links)

Dumfries and Galloway is famed for its unspoiled landscapes, exceptionally mild weather, and friendly towns and villages. Although in a rural farming area, at The Annexe you will never be far away from the many pursuits and amenities of our area.

Large sections of nearby coast are open to the public and there are several places where a dingy can be launched and sailed within safe coastal waters. Only 5 minutes drive away is an 18 hole sea-side golf-course, and sea angling, bird-watching, walking and cycling can all be had in the immediate neighbourhood.

Nearly every Thursday during July and August the Kirkcudbright Pipe Band can be heard in the Town Square.

Our nearest town is Kirkcudbright, about 10 minutes drive along the coast. Kirkcudbright is an attractive and bustling little burgh with a long history - especially its artists' colony, brightly coloured houses, a castle, a working fishing harbour, and an array of mostly family owned shops, restaurants and carry-outs where just about everything you would need for your holiday can be found. In the spring and summer the town hosts a large number of events as will be seen in their SummerFestivities website.

When in Kirkcudbright, why not visit our sweatshirt shop. Our website Lindsay Line has more details.

A few miles along the coast in the opposite direction is Gatehouse of Fleet, where there are places to eat and gentle riverside walks.

A sheltered bay at Carrick

A little further afield, but still within easy driving range, is our market town of Castle Douglas. At the centre of our highly prized farming and fishing community, it is rightly being promoted at the Food Town of the South West, where best quality produce can be bought or consumed.

And for book-lovers there is a selection of second-hand shops in the area. About 40 minutes drive takes you to Wigtown, established a few years ago as Scotland's booktown where over 30 book related business now flourish.

Whatever your interests or requirements might be - we are confident you will discover loads of interesting places to go - and lots of things to see and do.
